A BIT ABOUT ME

I received my Bachelor of Science from Lesley College in Cambridge MA, and my Master of Social Work at New York University in 1997. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and an expert in the social-emotional aspects of child development with over 15 years of invaluable clinical experience. I have a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and health care industry as well as experience with non-profit organizations, and independent schools. Since opening my private practice in 2014, I work with adolescents, young adults, adults, couples and families providing counseling for a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, parenting, and trauma issues. In my clinical work, I focus on the development of coping skills, emotional regulation skills, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral strategies. In my work with adolescents, I strongly believe that when you work with a child, you work with a family in order to improve communication, functionality, and quality of life.

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

According to the American Psychiatric Association, Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.  Research shows that most people who receive psychotherapy experience symptom relief and are better able to function in their lives.  Psychotherapy has been shown to improve emotions and behaviors and to be linked with positive changes in the brain and body.

ADOLESCENTS / YOUNG ADULTS

For adolescents, the most essential pieces for healthy emotional growth are an understanding of themselves, as well as feeling a connection to others.  Building trust is a key component in the work we do together. I focus my work on helping young adults to feel more comfortable in their own skin. I work with my clients on de-stigmatizing asking for help, and assist them to recognize their feelings and inner resources through mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral strategies. We work together on effective self advocacy and communication skills, and explore the components of healthy decision making as they move through important milestones in their lives. In addition to my work with adolescents, I also provide parent consultation and offer guidance and support, as well as practical strategies for improved communication.

ADULTS / COUPLES / FAMILIES

In our sessions, we’ll work to define and solve current problems, and improve positive thinking and behavior. I can help you “re-frame” your reactions and provide you with valuable tools to cope with life’s obstacles. I will help you recognize negative or destructive patterns you have developed, and to manage your mind and emotions more effectively. I will assist in improving communication, empathetic listening, and increased acceptance and understanding of the roles in a family system. My work is personally tailored to your family, your relationship, and your challenges.
